After nearly 18 months of discussion and planning, Tulare-Kings Right to Life brought the Genocide Awareness Project (GAP) to the College of Sequoias’ Visalia campus on February 16 th and 17 th. For those of you who had a chance to see it, the GAP was a sight to behold. Consisting of twelve 8’ x 3’ graphic pictures portraying the Nazi Holocaust, the lynching of African-Americans, and abortion, it depicted the horror of genocide – both historical and modern. (Click here for more pictures of this exciting event!)

Although several of the newscasts put a decidedly negative spin on the event, there were spots of hope. One station interviewed a student who was definitely impacted by the display. “I’m 47 years old, and this is the first time I’ve even seen something like this. And,” he said, as he paused, almost tearfully, “it’s not good.” When the reporter then asked whether his views on abortion were changing as a result of the project, he solemnly replied “Oh, yeah. Real quick.”

Stories like this are always encouraging. Perhaps even more heartening was the youth turnout at the project. Over 40 young people, ranging from as young as 13-25 years old used the apologetics skills they’ve learned at our Youth for Life meetings to engage culture in defense of life. One particularly interesting anecdote involved my 14-year old brother and several of his high school classmates debating the COS Philosophy club!

As TKRL’s Youth Outreach Coordinator, I’m often told how encouraging it is to “see the youth get involved” in pro-life ministry. This project was no exception. Thanks to your prayers and support, we truly are “Making a Difference for Life” among the youth of Tulare and Kings Counties.
